Taxi drivers block roads in protest at ride-hailing apps in Thailand
Taxi drivers blocked roads today (June 15) in a protest against the relaxation of laws for ride-hailing apps in Thailand.
Footage shows dozens of cabbies outside the country’s Ministry of Transport in the capital Bangkok.
They are angry that ministers approved a law allowing unregistered personal cars to double as taxis be used on taxi apps such as Grab and Bolt. Drivers had previously used the service without any legal status.
Taxi apps have eaten into the revenue of taxi drivers in the country, who previously enjoyed a monopoly over the lucrative tourist market.
