The pellets of ice poured down on a busy road forcing motorcycle riders to shelter from nearby shops as the pellets hit their skin in Jawa Barat, West Java province on June 18.

Resident Faisal Ismail said some of the riders asked to take refuge in the front porch as the storm continued to pour down.
He said: ‘Hail storms were very unusual to us who live here. The pellets were the size of small marbles and they continued to pour down for about ten minutes.’

A hailstorm is an unusual weather phenomenon where balls of ice called hail fall from the sky accompanying heavy rain. The ice balls are solid precipitations that will form under certain conditions.
