Chaos as hundreds of students invade Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham, UK
Hundreds of university students invaded Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham on Thursday (24/06). Footage filmed by Nicholas Milton shows students running onto the pitch after Birmingham Bears' defeat to Derbyshire Falcons. There were over 2,000 students sat at the stands of the T20 cricket match.
The students from four universities were said to be drunk and stormed the pitch at the end of the game resulting in complete chaos. Milton, from Stratford-Upon Avon, said: "Given the event was well planned in advance, I'm amazed Edgbaston didn't space out the 2,000 plus students around the stadium. Most of the rest of the ground was empty.
"The security staff didn't help. There were a few people who invaded the pitch before the end of the game. They were dealt with in a very heavy handed way which egged on the crowd."
