Footage filmed around 4 am shows spectacular lava fountains from Sicily's Mount Etna, Italy.

A new eruption occurred yesterday (July 31), late in the evening, lighting up the sky until the early hours of August 1. This is the fifth eruptive episode since January 2021.

The powerful lava fountains reached 800 meters high from the crater surface.

A large amount of ash reached the town of Zafferana Etnea and the villages on the southeast side of the volcano.

A new eruption on the Etna volcano, after an 11-day break, began in the late evening of 31 July and lit up the night until the early hours of 1 August, once again the protagonist was the Southeast Crater with its mouths of fire, the lava fountains have reached 800 meters from the surface of the crater and more than one lava flow has made its way on the sides of the crater. A large amount of ash was thrown into the sky and the eruptive column was carried by the wind in a south-east direction, falling on the town of Zafferana Etnea and on the villages on the south-east side of the volcano. This is the fifth eruptive episode since January 2021.
