A forest was left scorched after a wildfire ripped through it in Turkey.

Footage shows ash and burnt wood littering the forest in Buharkent town on August 2. Firefighters are seen dousing the burnt landscape with water to prevent the flames from reigniting.

Onlooker Orcun Yusuf Kamali said: ‘Thanks to the contributions of our citizens who did whatever they could to put out the fire, it’s been extinguished at the moment.’

At least eight people have reportedly died due to the fires affecting towns on Turkey’s southern coast, while thousands more have been evacuated.

Wildfires continue to burn across Turkey affecting neighbouring countries Spain, Greece and Italy as heatwaves brought extreme temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
