Brave traffic police save family from being washed away by river in Malaysia
Three heroic Malaysian traffic police officers were seen risking their lives to rescue a family trapped in a river.
The brave officers rushed to the scene after onlookers reported that a couple and their daughter were swept away by an overflowing river in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 15.
When they arrived, the three – without safety harness – immediately climbed down the bridge and clung to the walls before reaching their hands out to the family.
The wife and his daughter were first pulled out of the gushing deluge followed by the husband who was struggling to salvage his scooter from the river.
Onlooker Ahyie Hairi said: ‘The family was enjoying catching fish in the river when the water suddenly rose and they had no time to climb up.
The officers were so brave and did not waste time. Even if it was dangerous they were brave to help the family. I hope they are recognised for their good work.’
The family was safely brought up to the bridge uninjured before they were given health checks and first aid treatments.
However, the father’s scooter had to be left in the water because the current was too strong to pull it out. It was then taken out the next day before being sent to the mechanic for repairs.
Malaysia and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
