Recovering from calamity – Spoonbills rebuild after nesting tree collapses into river.

Buy video

This Yellow-billed Spoonbill (Platalea flavipes) pair lost their first nest when their nesting tree collapsed into the Serpentine River after heavy rains in July and August 2021. They began rebuilding in a tall Tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala) tree further away from the riverbank. One of the pair, probably the male, is shown selecting fallen sticks for the new nest on the lawn of the Riverside Gardens Reserve and then adding them to the new nest, accompanied by the female.
