Typhoon Conson knocked down trees and lamp-posts as it lashed eastern Philippines Tuesday afternoon.

Resident Raul Velarde filmed the damage wrought by the storm on Catbalogan City in the eastern province of Samar on September 7. Footage shows trees, street lamps, and electric posts toppled over by strong winds. Roadside shanties were also heavily damaged.

Conson made landfall in Eastern Samar as a typhoon on September 6 according to state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

It has been downgraded to a severe tropical storm after moving through central Philippines. The storm is expected to continue its northwest trajectory across the archipelago.

Typhoon Conson, locally called Jolina, is expected to dump more rain in the Philippines over the next 24 hours as it moves northwest through the central province of Masbate.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring another typhoon, Chantu, as it rapidly intensifies over the Philippine Sea. Typhoon Chantu entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility yesterday.
