A hospital was flooded after tropical storm Dianmu battered central Thailand.

The Bamnet Narong Hospital in Chaiyaphum province was submerged today October 1 in muddy floodwaters after tropical storm Dianmu overflowed a medium-sized dam into the district.

Paramedics transferred patients to a gas station temporarily as flash floods filled the hospital wards and damaged medical equipment.

A provincial government official said: ‘We hope that there will be no rain until the weekend so that the situation can return to normal. We are on standby in case it gets worse.’

At least seven people have been killed while more than 10 provinces in Thailand, including Chaiyaphum, have been inundated by Dianmu, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of Thailand. The Thai Meteorological Department said rainfall is expected to subside within the week.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
