Strong flood nearly sweeps away motorist in Thailand
This is the moment a strong flood nearly swept away a motorist in Thailand.
A rider was seen struggling to pull his motorbike across the deluge brought by tropical storm Dianmu when strong currents almost washed him away in Phetchabun province on September 26.
Fortunately, there were officers who rushed to assist him as he pushed the two-wheeler against the torrent while larger vehicles also had difficulties crossing the swamped road.
An onlooker who filmed the incident said: ‘It’s good that the officers grabbed the motorist in time. Otherwise, the motorcycle would definitely have fallen into the water.’
At least 10 provinces in Thailand have been inundated by Tropical Storm Dianmu, according to the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department of Thailand. The Thai Meteorological Department said rainfall is expected to subside within the week.
Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
