Engineering workers down tools as Union goes on indefinite strike

National Union of Metalworkers South Africa members have downed tools in a legal strike to demand a living wage from their employers.

Workers are demanding and 8% increase and employers are offering 4% on the minimum salary in the sector.

The union is engaging on this legal strike indefinitely or until their demands are met.

NUMSA boasts a sector specific mebership of over 300 000 workers.

Vuyo Lufele , regional secretary for Numsa in the Western Cape says workers have already dropped their demands from 15% to 8%

Last year workers conceded to not have an increase because of the COVID19 lockdown
