Chaos broke out at the Western Cape regional operations centre of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) as the commission held its final media briefing.

Anwar Adams heckled and interrupted Michael Hendrickse, the IEC’s chief electoral officer in the Western Cape, as he delivered his final address to the media. Adams leads the Democratic Independents, an emerging local party, and claims there were widespread voting irregularities. He accused the bigger parties and the media of concealing the truth.

A few minutes after the chaos within the centre settled down a few dozen people started protesting outside and were stopped by police from entering the building.
