An armed 64-year-old suspect outside United Nations in Manhattan, New York, prompts a standoff with the NYPD on Thursday morning (December 2).

The man wearing a red shirt was outside the bus stop outside the building, armed with a shotgun while holding a bag.

According to police, the armed man pointed the weapon at himself, allegedly threatening to commit suicide.

Traffic was blocked by NYPD at northbound FDR Drive and 42nd Street. Vehicles along the FDR Drive were affected by the closure.

Negotiators spent hours trying to convince the man to give up. He eventually removed notebooks from a backpack and gave up.
