A ride-hailing driver was rewarded with 2,000 yuan (£236) by police after stopping a man from beating his girlfriend in northern China.

In CCTV footage, a woman was talking with a man standing in front of her beside the road.

The man proceeded to beat the woman and dragged her away to continue to beat her.

Shortly afterwards the ride-hailing driver walked over and shouted towards the man: “What are you doing here? Where do you think this place is? I’ll take you to the police station.”

It’s reported that the driver was waiting for passengers on the side of the road and saw the violence and called the police.

The police then rewarded the driver with 2,000 yuan and a certificate for his bravery to stand out and stop the violence.

It is understood that the man beat his girlfriend due to a relationship dispute.

The footage was captured in the early morning of December 14 on Xinli Street, Tianjin City, and provided by local media with permission.
