Residents donate used car tires after the tourism bus accident that killed 13 passengers in Indonesia.

In footage filmed in Bantul, Yogyakarta province, on Saturday (12 February) shows volunteers from various communities collected thousands of used tires from several workshops, car rentals and communities.

The DIY Bantul SAR officer, Supriyanto Bondan, said used tires would be used as a safety wall placed on the right and left of the track where the accident occurred.

“Humanitarian action to raise tires is carried out through social media. Residents are eager to help as to minimize the impact of accidents. In a few days, 700-900 tires have been collected,” Bondan added.

According to Bondan, the contours of the road at the scene of the incident are indeed declining and vulnerable. The bus, which failed to brake and maneuvered, crashed into a mound, causing the bus body to crash along the cliff.

Previously, at least 13 people were killed and dozens injured when a tour bus carrying factory workers to a beach holiday crashed on the Indonesian island of Java on Sunday (February 6).

The bus with 47 passengers was heading from Sukoharjo in Central Java to a family gathering in neighbouring Yogyakarta province when the driver lost control going downhill, police said.

Added footage filmed by rescue officer Al Fajar in Bukit Bego in Bantul showed medics at the scene of the crash working to get the injured out of the mangled vehicle.
