A tropical storm destroyed dozens of homes in northeast Thailand.

More than 30 houses in the Chokchai district were badly damaged by the powerful wind and rain in Nakhon Ratchasima province on March 7.

Locals were forced to evacuate their properties as the wind blew the walls and the metal roofing.

Resident Chanya Luasuenchat, 53 said: 'My mother was so terrified that her jaws were locked. We had to move our mother to a different house. My children and I have to move to the ground floor as there is no roof.

'The wind blew for about 10 minutes and took everything on my second-floor home away with it. I have never experienced a storm this strong in my entire life, I hope it doesn't happen again as I don’t have anywhere to stay.'

About 36 houses in four villages and a temple were reported damaged so far in Thung Arun and Tha Yim subdistrict.

Authorities have already coordinated with relevant agencies and promised to assist those affected as soon as possible.
