A snake rescuer captured a giant king cobra on a tea estate in southern India recently before safely releasing the deadly reptile.

Footage captured on April 10 in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu showed an expert setting the 3.3-metre (11-foot) snake free in the jungle.

Tea pickers spotted the cobra as they were about to start work and informed the forest department who arrived with a specialist snake handler.

The king cobra is the world's longest venomous snake.

The reptile has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 2010.
