A freak summer storm swept away roofs in northeast Thailand as temperatures hit 38 degrees Celsius.

Dozens of homes were damaged by the storm in Nakhon Ratchasima province on April 28 evening.

The gusty wind tore away villagers’ roofs and tents as well as a Buddhist pillar shrine.

Officers from the centre of disaster prevention and mitigation are now surveying the damage in the region and assisting affected residents.

The Meteorological Department issued a warning in northern Thailand today April 29 that the southeasterly winds would prevail until next week while a moderate high-pressure system of weather from China will extend from the north to the northeast causing summer storms.

Officials said temperatures in the capital Bangkok would vary on Wednesday between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius, but cloud cover would help it to feel cooler.

Officials recorded the hottest ever day in Thailand on April 28, 2016, in Mae Hong Son province when the temperature reached 44.6 degrees Celsius.
