Hundreds of Indonesian tourist cars got lost in a dead end after misreading the google map guide on their phones.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province on May 7, shows a car with a license plate from the capital backwards after straying onto a road that only motorbikes can pass.

Meanwhile, behind the car, dozens of other stray cars were stuck in traffic while waiting for their turn to turn around.

Hendrik, a tourist from outside the province, said he used the Google maps on his phone to avoid traffic jams on the main road.

“I'm from out of town so I don't know my way around here. I used GPS to go to the Japanese tunnel attraction but was guided and got lost here,” Hendrik said.

Firman Jack, a local resident, said that every day since Eid al-Fitr, dozens of cars have strayed onto this road.

Not only during the day but also at night until the early hours of the morning. Luckily there were local kids who alerted the wrong driver and guided them in the opposite direction.

“Google Maps guides through this road, but it's actually for motorbikes and pedestrians, not for cars,” Jack added.

Additional footage shows the density of traffic flow on the main road leading to the city center.

In the system, the google map application gives users three choices when asking for directions for cars, motorbikes, trains and pedestrians.

In order not to get lost, users are asked to follow the guide according to the vehicle used.
