Villagers put out fires on homes allegedly set alight by the Burmese military.

Video shows the locals tossing buckets of water and using hoses to extinguish the fire ripping through wooden houses in Mae Khone village in Myanmar's Magway Region on May 11.

The residents and monks living there allegedly begged with the military not to burn their houses, but the soldiers were adamant in following through with their orders, the Mediterranean People's Defense Battalion said.

The group added around seven houses had been burned down, claiming the junta were tasked to burn at least three houses per village in the Magway Region.

The Burmese military has launched a number of violent attacks amid the political turmoil caused by the ousting of former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021.

Around the country, thousands of civilians are said to have been killed during military crackdowns on protests. Rebel groups have also formed resistance movements against the military government.
