A family in southern India took pity recently on a baby pigeon that fell from its next and decided to raise the bird until it was strong enough to fly off on its own.

Footage captured in Tamil Nadu state showed the family feeding the tiny creature with a paste made of grain and even trying to teach it to fly with the help of a bicycle.

After several weeks, the pigeon had grown all of its feathers and began to take to the skies.

According to the family, the bird now regularly explores the outside world and interacts with other pigeons.

A dove hatchling that fell from its nest was rescued and sheltered by a family until it gained strength to fly on its own in South India.

A dove hatchling fell from its nest and was chased by crows. A group of children playing nearby saw this and informed their parents. The dove hatchling was rescued and was kept in a container that has coconut fibres and cotton etc underneath .


The bird was very scared and was shivering as it had its worst day. Later it was given water to drink and the eating habits of the hatchling was not known to the family. Rice was rejected by the dove. After surfing the net it's known that mama doves grind their food on its mouth and feed its babies. Hence finger millet is grinded in the mixer and water was added to it and was fed to the hatchling. Tummy filled hatchling slept peacefully later.

Days passed by millets and all sorts of small grains were grinded and fed to the bird. Training to fly was also given by the family for the bird as days passed by. It was named as Chittu and was fondly taken care of by the family.

Sometimes it pokes the fingers of the caretaker as it's too mischievous. As days passed by it developed its feathers and started to fly. It was safeguarded by the caretaker's family until it gained strength to fly and until its feathers were grown completely.

Then the family believed that the bird could survive on its own and later left it to fly and to explore the outside world with other birds of its own flock.
