Velankanni Basilica Glitters Ahead of Christmas Celebrations in southern india

As Christmas celebrations begin, the world-famous Velankanni Basilica in Nagapattinam district is illuminated with colourful lights, presenting a festive atmosphere.
A grand 43-foot-tall Christmas tree was ceremonially inaugurated in front of the Basilica and opened for public viewing. Decorated with green lighting and festive ornaments, the tree was created over the past week by nearly 100 workers and lit up on Tuesday night.
This year marks the first time a Christmas tree of this scale has been installed at the main entrance of the Basilica, similar to international celebrations. Thousands of devotees from various places have been arriving at Velankanni to take part in the festivities, with many joyfully taking selfies in front of the tree.
The Velankanni Basilica, which holds Basilica status and is a major Christian pilgrimage centre, has been fully decorated with colourful lights across its premises. In view of the large gathering of devotees, elaborate security arrangements have also been put in place.
