The world's first desert-railway loop line will start operations on Thursday (June 16) in northwest China.

Video filmed in Hotan in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on November 15 2021, shows the 825-kilometre-long Hotan-Ruoqiang Railway being constructed.

The construction work of Hotan-Ruoqiang Railway began in December 2018 and it was designed to connect Hetian City and Ruoqiang County in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The Hotan-Ruoqiang Railway completed the 2712-kilometre-long world's first desert-railway loop line.

The trains have a speed of 120 kilometres per hour. The fully completed railway line is expected to reduce the travel time between Hetian prefecture, Xinjiang and Xining City, Qinghai Province, from three days to just one day.
