This is the terrifying moment a steel plate flew into the bonnet of a car on a highway in eastern China.

Dashcam video captured the moment in the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang Province on November 3. It shows a steel plate appearing out of nowhere and flying towards the moving vehicle, which was about to overtake a large truck. The plate strikes the car and lodges itself in the bonnet.

Further footage captured on mobile phone shows a closeup of the steel plate lodged in the bonnet of the car.

The truck may have ran over the steel plate on the road, causing it to fly up and smash into the bonnet.

According to the motorist, named only as Ma, the unusual incident was reported to the police and he was able to claim insurance to repair his car.

11月3日，浙江宁波，一男子高速上驾驶时，一块钢板从天而降直插引擎盖。当事人马先生称，当时正准备从大货车一旁超车时，货车轮胎可能压到一块铁片，弹起后插到引擎盖上了，引擎盖被划了一个大口子。他说，刚开始还挺镇定的，过了一会想想有点后怕，幸好钢板没弹在挡风玻璃上，否则后果不堪设想。目前，马先生已经报警，并报保险维修。
