An expensive situation has arisen when the specialist building company Caledonian Modular went into receivership before completing the construction of a a new Primary Academy for 420 pupils in Newquay Cornwall UK. Constructed on land next to the existing Tretherras Academy. The school due to open in September 2022 will now not be ready for the new term and temporary classrooms have been constructed within an area including the bar of the nearby local sports centre. The Department of Education is looking at a re-procurement process to complete the work but building firms are never keen to accept responsibility for existing structures and materials. Caledonian Modular based in Newark Notts was one of the largest modular pre-fabricated building companies in the country with 200 employees. It went into administration on March the 8th 2022 after losing some £25 million over two years. Unsecured creditors are owed £20.7 million pounds. The projected cost to taxpayers for a new school of this size based on published Govt figures would have been in the region of £6 million pounds.
