Twelve people were killed and hundreds injured from a chlorine gas leak at a port in Jordan on Monday, June 27.

The storage tank containing 25 tonnes of the gas fell and cracked open while it was being loaded onto a ship at the Aqaba port shortly after 4 pm local time.

CCTV shows how the container slipped from a winch and crashed onto the deck of the cargo vessel, sparking panic among the workers.

Officials said twelve people had been killed and more than 260 were injured.

Authorities warned residents living nearby to shut their windows and stay indoors.

Jordan's Civil Defence service said specialized teams were sent to deal with the fallout from the leak. Several evacuation planes were also sent into Aqaba.
