A rare white rainbow was seen lingering above a city in northern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Heihe in Heilongjiang Province on June 29.

The filmer named Gao Shifan said this phenomenon is called fog bow, which is also called white rainbow.

Gao captured the phenomenon twice before but it was his first time seeing it in Heihe city.

According to Met Office, a fogbow is similar in some respects to a traditional rainbow.

A fog bow forms in fog when the water droplets are much smaller, whereas a normal rainbow forms in rain.

The small size of water droplets (smaller than 0.05 millimetres) causes fog, thus the fog bow has only very weak colours.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
