River levels pass 2 meters in Kendal, Cumbria after heavy rain hit the region overnight
River levels have risen to over 2 meters on the River Kent in Kendal, Cumbria with a raging torrent of water flowing through the town.
Heavy rain hit the region overnight with river levels rising to 2.033m or just over six and a half feet on Tuesday 2 August 2022.
The raging water is a result of rain hitting the Cumbrian and Lake District fells with the water running off the hills and flowing into the River Kent which eventually leads into Morecambe Bay and the Irish Sea.
Kendal was badly flooded in 2015 during Storm Desmond. In recent weeks, a new steel footbridge has been installed, 7 years after the original Gooseholme bridge was damaged in the 2015 storm. Work is also continuing on the flood protection scheme along the river with new flood walls being installed.
