This was the scene of total chaos after a crash caused tailbacks almost 2 miles long in Birmingham city centre on Saturday, 23 Aug night.

The black people carrier had lost control on the 40mph average speed camera section of road leading away from Fiveways.

It crashed through the metal central reservation barriers, coming to a stop on the opposite side of the carriageway.

The car was a complete write-off.

Police are now hunting for the occupants of the vehicle after they fled the crash.

West Midlands #Police said in a statement: "We were called to Lee Bank Middleway last night after a report of a car on its roof.

"Officers attended and helped Highways make the area safe.

"Enquiries are ongoing to find the occupants of the vehicle.

"Anyone with more information can contact us via 101 quoting log 5027 of 23 August."

Officers worked hard to clear the road as other emergency services struggled to make their way through the backed up gridlock.

Just a few hundred metres further down the road, 6 people died in December 2017 after a speeding motorist crashed as he crossed the central reservation and collided with a taxi at 94mph.
