Stray cats were tied down with a string while being spayed to control their population in Thailand.

Footage shows the tranquilised felines secured on a table as vets performed the operations in Bangkok August 15.

Various foundations began working together to provide sterilization for cats, dogs, and even monkeys for free at the Wat Sakae Ngam Buddhist temple in Bang Khun Thian district where there are many strays.

Director of Bang Khun Thian District Dr Pongchakarin Thavornpong said: ‘I came to support the veterinary team. I hope this procedure would reduce animal aggression and improve the coexistence between human and animal through proper management.'

Thailand was home to 350,000 stray cats and dogs in 2007 which more than doubled to 860,000 after ten years in 2017. The Department of Livestock Development believe that the number could rise to five million in 2037 so different programs and information drives were launched across the country.
