Officials in Sichuan Province, southern China, assessed the damage after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked the area on September 5.

Clips provided by Sichuan TV show several buildings severely damaged by the quake in the city of Luding.

Further footage shows a landslide triggered by the tremor blocking a road.

According to Reuters, at least seven people have been killed by the quake.

Sichuan Luding earthquake damages local houses and disrupts roads

On September 5, a magnitude 6.8 earthquake occurred in Luding, Ganzi, Sichuan, with a focal depth of 16 kilometers. The epicenter of the Sichuan Luding M6.8 earthquake was in Hailuogou Glacier Forest Park, and the towns within 20 kilometers of the epicenter were Moxi Town, Detuo Town and Yanzigou Town. The epicenter was 39 kilometers away from Luding County, 47 kilometers away from Kangding City, and 226 kilometers away from Chengdu City. Residents of towns and villages in the epicentre of the epicentre photographed damaged houses and injured people. According to preliminary exploration, communications in Moxi Town and Yanzigou Town at the epicentre have been interrupted, landslides and house damage in Detuo Town are serious, and roads in Lengqi Township are interrupted.
