A rhino has been spotted with an unusually long horizontal horn leading to comparisons with a unicorn.

Photographer Graeme Mitchley, 50, was on a tour in South Africa when he found two white rhinos strolling through the savannah.

Without having to zoom in closely on one of the giant animal’s faces its horn was clearly different to its partner, pointing out more horizontally than a usual barb.

Not only that but Graeme estimates the horn to measure around 50cm (20 inches), almost 50% longer than the average white rhino.

Graeme said: “This is the first time I have seen a horn like this. The guide said that she was born like this. Each horn is unique but this one definitely stood out.

“I have photographed hundreds of rhinos but none with a horn like this. Two horns are visible, the long horn stands out due to its unique shape.

“I always love seeing rhinos, no matter where or when and in different surroundings. I was more excited to see this rhino due to the shape of the horn.

It amazes me how wild animals can adapt, she is a healthy rhino of 30 years of age and has learnt to adapt with her horn.

“I always get questions about wild animals who look unique or are injured and my answer is the same - we mustn't associate our human emotions with wild animals.

“They are far more adaptable and have a wonderful ability to recover, they are extremely resilient "
