Nerve shredding footage shows what it’s like being stood in a cage with a pair of lions climbing all over leaving one man to feel them "breathing down his neck."

Dustin Campbell was at the Marakele Animal Sanctuary, South Africa, on May 8 when he took part in their unique Lion Mobile trip, seeing guests sitting on the back of an open jeep covered by a cage.

Palm sweating footage shows a male lion clambering up on top of the cab after some meat before climbing on top of the cage, just centimetres above Dustin’s head.

While nuisance wildlife removal worker Dustin, 42, had a front row seat to the male’s massive teeth shredding through steaks, a lioness suddenly appeared right behind him.

Taken aback, Dustin, from West Monroe, Louisiana, US, joked "I can feel her breathing down my neck" as she also chomped down on some food.

Dustin said: “There’s something about feeling a lion’s breath on your neck that will make the hair on your arms pop up.

“The sensation was completely foreign to me. It’s comparatively close to a really strong adrenaline rush. An amazing mixture of curiosity and astonishment.

“The main smells were the fear from the other guys in the cage and the fresh meat snacks the lions were eating.

“The only thing between us and the two massive lions outside was the mesh of the cage. It was as close as you could be.

“Seeing them feeding on pieces of meat on top of the cage was awe-inspiring.”
