A helicopter delivered supplies to families stranded in floods in northeast Thailand.

The chopper from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment dropped supplies to households cut off by flooding in Khon Kaen province's Chonabot district.

Officials estimated more than 100 bags of supplies, including grilled chicken, were loaded into the aircraft.

Chatchai Kosavisut, the chair of Kosa Hotel, and district authorities were waiting below with two boats to gather goods from the aerial vehicle and deliver them to affected residents.

He said: 'Kosa Hotel is a 24-hour donation point to help villagers who have been affected by the floods' said Chatchai.

'The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is supporting us in carrying the survival kits to aid the villages who have been cut off so they don't have to row their boat too far outside.'

One delighted local said: 'We are very happy to have the opportunity to try raining chickens.

'We are also thankful that officials are sending out helicopters to drop survival bags to us so that we may have extra food to keep afloat.'

Thailand has experienced severe flooding this year.

Meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.

Thailand's Center for Climate Change and Disaster claimed the coming months could see heavier, longer rainfalls, due to 'climate change'.

Local media reported that the country has this year seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season'.

The heavy rain has been compounded by the deluge from Typhoon Noru, which dumped water in the northeast region of the country, causing rivers flowing into the central region to swell.
