Typhoon Bualoi rescue teams save stranded pensioner and her 10 pigs
Rescue teams saved a stranded pensioner and her 10 pigs during the onslaught of Typhoon Bualoi.
Authorities received a report of a stranded family, prompting them to immediately dispatch a search and rescue team to assist with the evacuation of residents in inundated areas of Uttaradit, Thailand.
Footage shows a responder on a jet ski accompanied by colleagues in a wooden dinghy in front of a massive, uprooted tree and a heavily damaged pigsty on September 30.
The rescuer can be seen driving towards the elderly woman, who was sitting on floating bamboo next to the pigs.
Authorities said that three individuals, including an elderly couple, a child, and a dog, were retrieved and evacuated to safety.
Meanwhile, a local man insisted on staying behind to guard the pigs, gathering them on the rooftop.
The rescue team reportedly provided sufficient food supplies for the man and the animals and alerted the rescue unit that he had chosen to remain at the location.
More than 2,000 households across three districts were affected, with rescuers finding families begging for food and water.
Officials said the floods were the 'worst in four decades' as more boats and supplies were being delivered to the stricken communities. Bualoi struck Vietnam early Monday morning, with winds reaching 130 km per hour, leaving at least 26 people dead and 22 missing.
Authorities confirmed that Bualoi triggered at least eight tornadoes across several provinces in Vietnam, including Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi.
In Ninh Binh, the extreme weather left nine people dead and 18 injured. Eleven single-storey houses collapsed, 126 homes were damaged, and 53 utility poles were brought down.
Bualoi had previously caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and forced hundreds of thousands of families into evacuation centres.
The Thai Meteorological Department said Bualoi has been downgraded to an active low-pressure system over Laos. It was expected to cause heavy rainfall and flooding in northern regions while moving along the monsoon trough across the region.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said at least seven were killed in floods in Thailand.
