Officials in several Florida coastal counties have ordered mandatory evacuations of barrier islands, low lying areas and mobile home parks in anticipation of the arrival of Tropical Storm Nicole. Palm Beach County officials issued an evacuation order Tuesday afternoon. Forecasters are concerned that Nicole, which is expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane before landfall, will be accompanied by a five foot storm surge, which would inundate barrier islands and land along the Intracoastal Waterway. The National Weather Service issued a hurricane warning Tuesday morning for a long stretch of the Atlantic coast from Boca Raton northward.
