Police are searching for a serial cat killer who has poisoned 30 stray felines and dumped them in a village in Thailand.

Officers found the rotting corpses inside five sacks buzzing with flies when locals complained about the smell in Nakhon Pathom province on November 9.

The creatures reportedly lived at an abandoned house next to the vacant lot where the sacks were found so cops inspected the area and found one more dead animal by the door.

A team was sent to disinfect the area and bury the cats on the ground with a digger as they were believed to have been killed with an unknown strong poison.

Villager Wichai Suwanchairap, 60, who lives across the street, said: ‘My neighbours and I found ten dead cats about four days before the sacks started to smell.

‘Many people come here to feed the cats that live in that house. Their population grew to around 50 cats.

‘When we found the dead cats I knew someone was trying to harm them so I wrote a sign here not to feed the cats in the meantime.'

The old man added that someone might have been annoyed by the dozens of cats that would sometimes poop along sidewalks.

He said: ‘Now all the cats are dead. Please don't do this again. It's depressing.'

A backhoe was used to dig a 7ft-deep hole where the dead cats were buried on the same lot where they were found.

The investigating officer at the Nakhon Chai Si Police Station asked witnesses to share information to catch the cat killer.

He said: ‘Animal cruelty is punishable by jail time and fine. Please come forward if you have information.'
