Thousands of revellers hit the town in Derby city centre on Saturday night to celebrate New Years Eve.

However the partygoers were filmed being handcuffed and wrestled to the floor by cops in several incidents.

Most of the trouble started in the early hours of 1 January 2023.

One woman in a black dress was placed in cuffs and led to an awaiting police van for an unknown offence.

Another man was wrestled to the ground by several officers before he was later de-arrested.

Lots of clubbers were seen tucking into a takeaway, their first meal of 2023 and then taking a rest on the side of the road.

The New Years Eve action took place on Wardwick and Friar Gate in the centre of the East Midlands city.

When a man was told to leave the area by police officers, he became aggressive towards the cops, tussling with them before backup arrived and forced him to move on.

The night had started with rain but that soon cleared to give a dry early start to 2023 with some wishing they had started it without the police getting involved.
