This is the moment water cascaded down craggy cliffs as a flash flood hit an archaeological site in the ancient city of Petra in Jordan.

The muddy, river-like torrents filled the gorge in the UNESCO World Heritage site after heavy rain, prompting tourists to evacuate on December 27.

Footage shows visitors in raincoats watching the brown-colored falls as they waited for the flood to recede in an open area.

More than 20 tourists were killed in flash floods in the same area in 2018.
