Met police car overturns on A12 at Margaretting, Essex

'THE London-bound section of the A12 was closed between the Margaretting and Mountnessing junctions after a Met Police car crashed in early morning of Thursday, July 25, 2013.

Two male Met officers were injured, one seriously, when their Hyundai i30 overturned - no other vehicle was involved according to Essex Police - on a slight bend of the southbound carriageway.

The Essex Air Ambulance landed on the carriageway and took the seriously injured officer while an emergency ambulance took the other to Broomfield Hospital by road

Two lanes of the southbound stretch have reopened after the accident at 07:30 BST at Margaretting, near Chelmsford..

A Met Police spokesman said the marked car was not answering an emergency call when the crash happened.

Mystery surrounds the circumstances of the how and why the police car overturned and police road crash experts and forensic officers were on the scene.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Two people were in the vehicle. One has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The road was re-opened shortly after 12 noon.',
