Thai man desperately seeking help to cure swollen testicles 'as large as a coconut'
A Thai villager is desperately seeking help to cure his testicles that have grown as large as a coconut.
Sa-ard Amphanthong, 60, requested aid from authorities in the Pak Tho district of Ratchaburi province, claiming the medical abnormality interfering with his daily chores.
The pensioner said his condition has made living more burdensome, especially since he lives alone in a squalid house without assistance.
Simple tasks like walking or standing up have become difficult. When relieving himself in the bathroom, he has to hold his genitals to keep them from dipping into the toilet water, he complained.
Sa-ard also claimed that he had already visited two hospitals previously, but the large growth remained uncured.
He said: 'I want to go to the hospital, but each trip costs 600 baht (18 USD). I only get 1,700 baht (51 USD) a month.'
His money comes from monthly stipends from his meager state pension, a welfare card, and a government disability allowance.
Taking pity on the hapless man, Pak Tho mayor Suttipong Putchantra and Pak Tho Hospital director Dr. Prasert Chatwitchanon visited Sa-ard at his home on January 10 to ask about his medical history.
Prasert said Sa-ard, being a disabled person, was entitled to medical treatment, adding that he was suffering from diabetes and stage five chronic kidney disease.
Prasert said: 'From a brief inspection and his medical history, we think fluid from his abdominal cavity is flowing into his testicles.
'We believe the swollen testicles are not related to cancer, but to kidney disease. He should have them checked by a specialist for a more accurate diagnosis.'
The villager has been advised to keep managing both of his illnesses while doctors check if surgery can be done on his genitals.
Meanwhile, local authorities have vowed to help Sa-ard make the hospital trips, while Suttipong said he will be coordinating with the Ratchaburi Hospital for Sa-ard's treatment.
