A rare species of plant dubbed the corpse flower due to its foul odour has been found growing in Padang, Indonesia.

Footage from February 9 shows the Rafflesia arnoldii being cordoned off by some sticks and cloth.

Many locals were surprised by its growth in such a residential area. The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) is conducting an investigation into the growth of this rare flower.

The people in Padang City, West Sumatra, were surprised by the discovery of the Rafflesia Arnoldi flower growing in residential areas. Rafflesia is a rare flower consisting of five species that generally grow and are found in Bengkulu, namely Rafflesia arnoldii, Rafflesia gadutensis, Rafflesia hasseltii, Rafflesia bengkuluensis and Rafflesia kemumu. Rafflesia is a rare plant, because it has a relatively long reproduction time. However, until now it has not been known whether Rafflesia really grows in that place, or was deliberately planted by unscrupulous members of the community. Currently, the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) is conducting an investigation into the growth of this rare flower.
