An escaped zebra caused traffic chaos after breaking free from a zoo in South Korea.

The male animal named Sero was seen trotting across a road in Seoul while cars waited at a traffic light on the afternoon of March 23.

It entered a narrow alleyway in a residential area, shocking locals in the normally quiet neighbourhood of the capital.

Authorities cornered and tranquilised Sero after its three-hour escapade.

Choi Ye-ra, an official at the Children's Grand Park where the zebra was born in 2021, said the zoo was investigating how Sero escaped from its pen.

There were no reports of damage or injuries. Veterinarians said Sero is in a stable condition.
