In a 400-year-old tradition, devotees of a "godman" in Hosur, India willingly subject themselves to being hit with a dust pan and broomstick on April 12.

While this may seem unusual, they believe that getting hit can clear their debts, bring them marriage, and solve all their problems. As one participant explained, "I have come here to get hit by the dust pan and broomstick. I am confident that all my problems will be solved." Despite the pandemic, thousands of devotees from neighboring states attended the function to take part in the unique ritual.
