Chinese residents collect oysters washed ashore
Residents collected oysters that were washed ashore in southern China.
Video filmed in the city of Shanwei in Guangdong Province on May 30 shows dozens of residents with buckets collecting oysters on Dahu Beach.
Some residents claimed to have collected one to two hundred grams of oysters.
Officials from the Marine Comprehensive Law Enforcement Brigade in Haifeng County stated that they are currently uncertain about the exact cause of this sudden influx of oysters on the sandy shores.
They suspect that the oysters, which are typically cultivated by local fishermen near Dahuchi Beach, may have been washed ashore by the sea.
However, the authorities remain unsure about the safety of consuming these oysters and, as a precautionary measure, they advise residents to refrain from consuming them. Furthermore, they plan to report the situation to higher authorities for further investigation and action.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
