A bull-taming event, known locally as Jallikattu, was held in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, on June 2.

Footage shows contestants attempting to control the raging bulls as they raced out of a paddock.

The aim of the game is to hold on to the bull for as long as possible or until the animal comes to a stop.

This event saw 834 bulls and 423 tamers take part.

The sport has been banned several times by the Supreme Court of India due to injuries and deaths but protests saw the sport able to continue in 2017.
