A university student swam in the deep floodwater as torrential rain transformed the campus into a pool in southern China.

Video filmed in the city of Guiyang in Guizhou Province on June 18 shows a boy swimming in the deep floodwater that submerged a campus.

According to reports, an unexpected deluge hit the city with certain areas receiving more than 100mm of rain within a span of just six hours.

Torrential rain triggered widespread flooding across the city and Guiyang Fire Department swiftly rescued 4 individuals and evacuated 31 stranded residents amid submerged roads and houses.

At 9:37 am on Monday (June 19), the yellow warning signal for heavy rain was lifted.
