This is the heroic moment a fearless market stall vendor jumped into his pick-up truck to stop carjackers trying to steal it.

Sasin Chuenkul, 25, was preparing to open his food stand in Prachinburi, Thailand when he heard his truck's engine revving amid rainfall before dawn on June 24.

He went to investigate and was shocked to find his pick-up truck backing up on the driveway. As the suspects prepared to speed away, quick-thinking Sasin opened the passenger door and leapt inside, trying to wrest the wheel from the alleged thieves.

CCTV footage shows how the pick-up spun across the wet road as the men scuffled inside the truck's cabin. The suspected carjackers then abandoned the truck and fled in a white sedan following their bungled attempt.

Police Captain Cherdsak Panpanit from the Si Maha Phot district police said: 'After receiving a report, police travelled to the scene to investigate. We found the pick-up truck slightly damaged with its interior in disarray. We are currently tracking down the suspects by reviewing the surveillance footage in the area.'

Speaking to local media, vendor Sasin said he usually woke up at around 2 am to open the restaurant but had overslept that day due to the heavy rain.

He said: 'When I woke up, I noticed there was a white sedan parked in front of the 7-11 across the street. I thought the driver was just taking a nap.

'I was shocked when I heard a loud bang like the sound of a trunk closing in my garage. I went to check, and found the thieves trying to steal my truck. It was terrifying, but I'm glad I was able to stop them in time.'

Police said they were tracing the suspects' escape route through surveillance footage.
