A gushing flash flood covered a bridge as heavy rain pummeled South Korea killing at least 41 people.

Footage shows an overflowing river engulfing a bridge in Nonsan City in South Chungcheong province on July 14.

Authorities said at least 41 people have died, 35 injured, nine missing, and thousands evacuated from their homes as torrential rains triggered landslides and flash floods across South Korea.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said the government will designate devastated areas as 'special disaster zones' to speed up the emergency response.

Scientists have linked the extreme weather to climate change.
