STORYLINE:
 
Ridwan Kamil, governor of Indonesia's West Java province has said the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) will boost new economic growth and create more development opportunities in the country.
 
The high-speed line, a landmark project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, connects Indonesia's capital Jakarta and Bandung, capital of West Java province.

"It (ordinary train) takes 4 hours from Jakarta to Bandung. You can imagine almost 4 hours reduced only to 40 to 45 minutes. It will bring new economy, new opportunity, right? More meetings, more business coming. So that will be the benefit of this high-speed train.
You have to remember high-speed train is not only bringing people, but also bringing new opportunities because we are thinking of developing transit-oriented development, development within the station, in the form of buildings or in the form of a city. After the high-speed train, there is a reason to stay, to work, to live and create a new town, a new city."
 
West Java is the most populous province of Indonesia, with rich tourism resources.
 
The governor points out that the high-speed railway will further boost tourism in the province.

"Tourism will increase if you have a better connection. Because you have to remember West Java is building the highest number of toll roads, 9 toll roads we are building. 9 toll roads combined with the high-speed train, it means you can go anywhere in West Java very easily in less than 3 hours. So it means I will see more people traveling everywhere."
 
The governor believes the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway will become the symbol of a good relationship between China and Indonesia.
